New Website and Updates
Created a new website today, named after my favorite CPU instruction, the breakpoint: bkpt. Seriously though, I was impressed when I first looked into how debuggers work. Like, you’re telling me I can have infinite breakpoints (software breakpoints) and since I have to stop there anyway, the debugger can keep track of the breakpoint address and just insert the actual instruction there? Chef’s kiss. On top of that, it can accept arguments to enable semihosting and allow the program to print logs and even access files. So yeah, bkpt.party is the domain I randomly decided to buy. This has been a long time coming, though. I’ve wanted to move away from my old lzrd.codeberg.page for some time now. I don’t have any issues with Codeberg, just wanted my own domain really, and the old site generation setup was untracked and messy. This one is much simpler- there’s a homepage and a Hugo-generated blog. For the homepage I decided to go with a Gameboy LCD colorscheme and fonts inspired by Zelda (based on the wealth of Zelda knowledge I have accumulated by playing 1 (one) Zelda game…).
I also have a VPS now, where I run a few services accessible on all my devices under a Tailnet. Currently I have these running:
- Navidrome music server paired with Symfonium on Android
- Gitea - git, because we should GiveUpGitHub
- SilverBullet - Markdown based “knowledge management” system that I’m still learning about. It has a Lua-like scripting language that can be embedded into notes which I find very interesting as a concept (similar to what I’ve heard about Emacs Org Mode but in a web app and much more limited format)
- Memos - a microblog style notes app that I find really easy to use as an ideas journal. I’ve had it running for around a month now but it will probably be consumed by SilverBullet once I get the hang of it
I don’t run a web server on it. This website is all completely static content, so it lives on Cloudflare Pages.
Other things I’m considering running on the VPS:
- IRC Bouncer (ZNC, TheLounge or IRCToday)
- I want to run Immich but I have the cheapest possible $5/mo VPS. That won’t do.
- I do want to get rid of this VPS eventually and just run all of this in a moderately powerful mini PC/NUC.
- Syncthing as a lightweight, “backup”-only Immich alternative
- or any other backup solution for things like my password manager data
- Budgeting software
- Spreadsheets because I really like those
- Comments system for my blog
